EMILIO ALEXANDER
Emilio Alexander is a Queens-based photographer (Queens College Photography BFA ‘26). After graduating with a BA in Politics from Brandeis University (‘09) Alexander quickly discovered his heart and passion were in the arts. He initially shifted to fashion and eventually to photography. Mostly a self taught photographer, Alexander rode the fashion-influencer-Instagram wave of the mid 2010s. He was introduced to street style photography which thanks to photographers like Bill Cunningham became a bona fide melange of social documentary photography and fashion photography. Alexander has been published in Popeye Magazine (Japan, May 2018), Fantastics Magazine (US February, 2019) as well as Diario Libre (Dom. Rep.) as a NYFW correspondent.
Nowadays, Alexander has moved on from fashion and Instagram oriented photography to curated portraits and still life in film photography. Alexander is very inspired by the work of Latoya Ruby Frazier and her image-making rather than picture taking approach to the medium.
Alexander’s work explores intimacy. It is both an object of his photography and an approach to photography.
